Social Activities
Survey
Social activities in our community are a great way to meet people, keep active, learn new skills and have fun!
In 2015 & 2016 we conducted a survey to see what kind of activities residents would like to see. A high percentage were interested in having a village event, and walking activities also ranked very highly. The results of the 2016 survey can be found here >>
We will continue to arrange a programme of events and details will appear in the Calendar when these are confirmed. Click on events in the Calendar for further information which will appear when available or contact secretaryGCG@gmail.com.

Village Events

Past events have included BBQs and a Ceilidh with a Christmas theme. They were great fun and our thanks go to Julie, Amanda and their band who volunteered their time to provide some great music (and dance instructions!).

2016 saw a great turnout for the Village Party at Griffydam Primary School for the Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration on the 12 June. Thanks to everyone for making it such a memorable event.

Keep Active

We were delighted to be shortlisted for the Community category of the North West Leicestershire Local Sports Alliance Awards 2016. The nomination made by NWLDC was in recognition of the keep active events we have organised in the community such as walking groups, cycling and Pilates etc. Representatives George Denoon and Sylvia Armiger from the Griffydam Community Group were presented with a runners up certificate at the awards ceremony on the 3 November. Further information about the Sports Awards and pictures from the evening can be found here>>

Our walks are a great way to excercise whilst exploring the lovely countryside and places of interest. They also offer the chance to catch up and socialise and we often stop off for optional lunch or refreshments.
This last few years have seen a number of walks organised with various themes

Groups

In 2015 we organised a 6 week art course tutored by artist Rosemary Mafrici. Rosemary studied at Dartington College of Art before starting her career as a portrait painter and muralist.
The classes were great fun and of mixed ability and our thanks go to George for organising and hosting the classes.
We now have a mutual support art group that meet on a monthly basis. It is for all levels from beginners to the more experienced artists. If you are interested in joining this group please contact Brenda Robinson on:
or Tel 01530 222 500

A French Conversation group has been formed and meets on the last Thursday of every month at 7.30pm to converse in French on topics of interest. If you would like the opportunity to practice your French and would like to join the group then please email alan.griffydam@gmail.com. Everyone welcome!
VIllage Competitions

It was fantastic to see the number of sunflowers around the village in 2015 and thanks to everyone who got involved. Winner of the school category was Lleyton Foster who was presented with his prize, certificate and trophy at a school awards afternoon. The Chapel in the Valley tots received individual certificates and medals for their display, and big congratulations go to the Brooks family who were the overall village winners with their amazing (and tallest!) array of sunflowers.
In 2016 Angela and Beryl both from Top Road were the winners of the 2016 Village Flower competition in joint 1st place for best display of container flowers. Winner of the best decorated container is Griffydam Primary School. Well done to the winners and everyone who entered for their wonderful displays. See the photos of flowers around the village below:
